Nina Schmidgall

Director of Family Ministry

Nina first moved from California to the nation’s capital to work for the United States Congress, serving as a Legislative Director in the House of Representatives. Writing and directing education and family policy, Nina realized her deep passion for strengthening the family and the home. Trading public policy for potty policies, she now oversees the family ministry department and children’s programs at NCC’s six locations. Nina and her husband, Joel, live on Capitol Hill with their three kids: Eloise, Ezekiel, and Lorenza. When allowed time-off for good behavior, Nina enjoys dance, photography, and bargain shopping.

Reagan Chaney

Project Manager & Location Support Specialist

Reagan was born and raised in the Washington DC metropolitan area. After graduating from Bridgewater College of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Communication Studies, she returned to DC to begin working as a social worker. Reagan works with adults with disabilities, helping them find employment and become successful parts of our community. In 2008, she joined National Community Church and has been hooked on the core values and mission-driven heart ever since. Here at NCC, she works on our family ministry team and loves creating an environment for kids to have fun learning about God's love. Reagan is passionate about crafts, laughing, traveling the world, and dancing.

Katie Gonzales

Children's Ministry Creative Coordinator

Katie was born in Kentucky but raised in the beautiful state of Tennessee. Thankfully, she wasn’t blinded by all that orange and made her way back to the University of Kentucky. Since graduating, she has explored a few different career options until she was blessed with the opportunity to join the Family Ministry Team! Katie serves as the Location Support Specialist at our Barracks Row campus as well as on the creative branch of the Family Ministry team. It allows her to be silly while helping kids and families develop faith foundations! Katie lives in Alexandria, VA with husband Daniel, daughter Mila... and their pup Hollywood.

Steffen Humbert

Youth Pastor

Steffen was born and raised in the Sunshine State and is still trying to figure out what to do with temperatures below 65 degrees in DC. He studied at Trinity International University and has been working with students for 5 years. While originally studying Criminal Justice, everything changed as God began to unearth an inescapable passion for youth ministry that would eventually carry into full-time ministry. Steffen loves watching grace capture students! He also enjoys everything outdoors, Cuban food and may have a somewhat unhealthy interest in animals that slither...although that is yet to be entirely verified. Steffen is married to his lovely bride Celeste and they are both currently living on Capitol Hill.

Jenilee Hurley

Children's Pastor

Jenilee comes from the great state of Washington, Everett to be exact. Majoring in Political Science and History at Northwest University, she ended up following God’s leading and became a youth pastor at Bethany Christian Assembly. She made the BIG leap across the country to the “other” Washington to be a part of the Protege Program at NCC. After spending a year, she knew she was meant to stay in DC (it was more like a couple months...just don't tell her family that.).

The heartbeat of Jenilee is to see people of all ages dive into the adventure of faith, and especially helping kids, teens and families engage in the discovery of who Jesus is and to how to live life to the fullest! (Just a little tip: Laugh A LOT!)

Jenilee is married to THE Dan Hurley, from Northern Virginia. And despite their awkward first date, where he was an hour and forty-five minutes late, they are excited to begin their new life together! Jenilee and Dan are opposites, except when it comes to competitive sports, but have found that they both have a huge passion and desire to see the next generation love Jesus just as much as they do!

Brooke Perry

Associate Youth Pastor

Brooke is Northwest born and raised and, even though she misses the mountains, trees, and even the rain of the Northwest, she has never regretted her decision to up and move to D.C. in February of 2016 simply because she heard God tell her to go. With a history of youth ministry, discipleship and outreach positions in tow, God brought her to NCC after just two months of looking for churches and she hasn't looked back since! In September 2016 she helped launch Ballston's Uprising youth location and fell in love again with youth ministry.  Her passion is to see students completely released into powerful and purpose-filled identities that God has given them and will stop at almost nothing in order to speak truth and courage into their worlds as they step more and more into the lives they lead. Brooke graduated with her Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary in 2017. When she's not working she is either hanging out with her cat watching Netflix (no shame in her game), continuing to cheer on the Oregon Ducks anywhere that will show a game or finding new hiking trails and museums to explore. And do not hesitate to ask, she's a coffee addict and an extrovert, so she is always up for a coffee date... or four... thrown into her schedule!

Bethany Strumpell

Children's Ministry Creative Coordinator

Bethany grew up in Ocean City, MD and moved to the DC area in 2000 where she finished high school and was a part of the first ever NCC youth small group. Bethany spent six years in Tennessee where she earned her BA in Public Relations and MS in Mental Health Counseling at Lee University. Bethany is passionate about adventuring with her husband, Ryan, spending time with friends, music, baking, hiking, Spotify and anything crafty. After spending an incredible year on the NCC team as a protégé, Bethany is now serving in the Family Ministries department developing family discipleship tools and working on the creative team. Bethany, Ryan and their very tiny puppy are currently enjoying DC living in Southeast.
