Pentecost Prayer Guide

Pray with us to Pentecost!

We are excited for you to join us in daily prayer for the next seven days leading up to Pentecost.

In the Jewish tradition, Pentecost commemorates God’s giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. It’s in those commandments that we see God’s character and values on display.

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to the disciples for 40 days. On one occasion, just before the celebration of Pentecost, Jesus said to the disciples in Acts 1:4, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized you with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

The disciples prayerfully waited for the promise Jesus presented. It’s safe to say that they most likely did not have a “category” for what would happen when the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost. Pastor Mark says often, “If we do what they did in the Bible, God might do what He did in the Bible.” What were the disciples doing before Pentecost? They were watchful, waiting, and praying. They knew to expect the Holy Spirit. But they didn’t know how He would appear.

Will you join us in being watchful? In waiting? And in praying for a new outpouring of the Spirit of God on our church? We suggest taking the next seven days and meditate on Acts chapters 1 and 2. You can pray along with us as we post seven daily prayers leading up to Pentecost Sunday. Be assured that we are praying for you as you seek the Lord. His promise is that when we seek Him He will be found. It’s an ancient but reliable prayer: COME, HOLY SPIRIT!

Monday, May 29
Verse: Acts 1:4 “Jesus said . . . but wait for the gift my Father promised which You have heard me speak about. John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the promise of the Father – the Holy Spirit. We eagerly await your Presence in our lives. Teach us to become people of Your Presence.

Tuesday, May 30
Verse: Joel 2:13  “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.”
Prayer: Lord, I open my heart to your cleansing love. I am turning to you with my whole heart. Thank you for your grace and compassion to me. I receive your abounding love as I wait for your Presence.

Wednesday, May 31
Verse: Joel 2:28-29 “In those days, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
Prayer: Lord we pray that this verse would become the reality of our church life. We expect your Spirit to be poured out on us for the sake of others in the form of prophetic encouragement, dreams and visions. We are eager to hear Your voice.

Thursday, June 1
Verse: Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes ON you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, come on us with power for the sake of the world, that we might share here, there, and everywhere on earth, the life-giving message of the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Friday, June 2
Verse: Ephesians 1:19-20 . “…His incomparably great power (is available) for us who believe. That power is the same that He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms…”
Prayer: Lord, help us to lay hold of this great resurrection power that is available to us as believers. Clothe us with power to be on mission to bring blessings to the world around us.

Saturday, June 3
Verse: Acts 2:2
“When the day of Pentecost came they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a blowing violent wind came and filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
Prayer: Lord! We can’t see the wind but we can see the effects of the wind. Would you send the wind of Your Spirit through our church in a fresh way? We are so expectant that when You promise to come, You come.

Sunday, June 4
Verse: Acts 2:3 . “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Prayer: Lord, we need a fresh baptism of fire! Please fill us with Your Holy Spirit and give us the gifts of the Spirit as you enable them. We believe that love leads and the gifts follow. Help us to love the world and give us fresh outpouring of your enabling gifts of the Spirit to serve our city and our world.

Closing Reminder
Acts 2:42 reminds us “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Lord as we go into this summer would you help us to press into the word. To be generous in fellowship. Bless us in our Tables small groups as we break bread. Let us remember You. And teach us the ways of staying constant in prayer. We love You and we are so grateful for the outpouring of Your Spirit on our church. In Jesus’ name we agree and pray. Amen.
If you haven't yet there's still time to join a Tables Summer Small Group!

Holy Land Study Tour

12:00 AM • Google Map

Contact: Jodi Otto •

St. Jerome called the Holy Land "the fifth Gospel." We will take a four-dimensional approach to Biblical study by focusing on it through historical, geographical, cultural, and spiritual lenses. By studying the Bible onsite with insight, we are able to re-enter our contemporary world better equipped to determine what it means for us today. We will dive into the story of Abraham in Beersheba, join the Exodus in the Wilderness of Zin, gaze on the battlefield of David and Goliath at the Valley of Elah, and walk with Jesus from Bethlehem to Nazareth to Galilee to Jerusalem.

September 1-11, 2017. Led by Pastor Heather Zempel and Pastor Dave Schmidgall. Stay tuned for details. Interested? Email Jodi to be put on the list for updates.
