Why: The money raised from the event will go towards building supplies for the construction of a school and orphanage outside the village of Accra in Ghana. This summer, a team of 11 men and women from NCC will be traveling to Ghana to help construct these buildings. In addition, they’ll be working with a local program that serves the needs of homeless children.
A portion of the proceeds will also go to World Vision (http://www.worldvision.org), a non-profit organization that provides access to clean water, food, education, and other resources to impoverished communities in 100 countries. Dave Nopachai, who attends National Community Church, will be running the Chicago marathon to raise money for World Vision through this event.
Dave’s Bio:
Dave has been living in the Washington, DC, area for the past two years, working as an outpatient physical therapist in Maryland. He is a good ol’ Midwestern boy from Illinois who continues to demonstrate his love for the St. Louis Cardinals. He has been an avid runner since 2008 and finished his first marathon in 2009 at the Marine Corps Marathon. This year he will be running the Chicago Marathon on 10/10/10 on behalf of Team WorldVision. He hopes his running, in addition to allowing him to eat fast food without guilt, can benefit others and bring awareness to worldwide issues related to poverty.
