Are you new to DC and between the ages of 18 and 30? Join us to learn from seasoned leaders about your career and calling. Engage in meaning-ful small-group community with your peers. Learn to live and share your faith for a lifetime!

Every year hundreds of young leaders who want to change the world come to DC, but unexpected challenges in the workplace and lack of community can derail them from the God-given ideals they arrived with. Freshmen of the City is a semester-long experience designed to engage 20- and 30-somethings who want what they do to matter.

Each group is led by a mentor who is a seasoned leader in the marketplace and wants DC to be a place where you thrive, not just survive. Freshmen of the City is a place to become rooted in a biblical worldview and a life-giving community as you learn the basics of living and sharing your faith for a lifetime.

We'll cover topics including career and calling, living on mission, the importance of community, and avoiding the comparison game through practical application and biblically-based discussion.

Who: Those ages 18-30 who have been in DC < 1 year
Where: The Miracle Theatre, 535 8th St SE DC
When: Tuesdays @ 7 PM starting February 13, 2018

We are heading to Port-au-Prince for the seventh year in a row to partner with our friends, Julie and Franceli Joseph at Redeemer’s Child Orphanage (Bisoul Timoun). In past years, we have worked with this organization on construction projects, vacation Bible school summer camps and compassion trips, spending time with children and their caretakers. We invite you to spend a week learning more about Haitian culture pre and post the life changing 2010 earthquake. Because of our on-going longterm relationship with the Joseph’s, this is a great team to join if you’ve never joined a mission team before but want to experience missions in Haiti firsthand. This year we will focus on providing long-term support to Redeemer’s Child through fundraising and continued relationship building. We will also immerse ourselves in Haitian culture while we are the ground.

This team will return to Derry, Northern Ireland, the site of 1972’s Bloody Sunday. Our goal is to encourage continued healing and hope to a historically tense region. In partnership with Cornerstone City Church in Derry we will help to put on a week of vacation Bible school for the area’s Catholic and Protestant children; offer prayer and conversation to those we meet on the street; assist in a football (soccer) tournament for under 14 year olds; participate in various community projects around the city; and help the community stay healthy through mobile medics. It is an amazing opportunity to learn from Derry and Northern Ireland’s history while building long term relationships. If you like people, enjoy working with children, get passionate about restoration of relationships, have a heart for evangelism, and/or are a qualified medical professional, please seriously consider joining us for this team!

The Justice Experience 2018 Info Session

Contact: Chris Wells • dche@aoneeight.org

Chris Wells, who will be leading this mission in our own city of Washington, D.C., this June, will give full details about this upcoming opportunity at NCC's 7th Street office behind Miracle Theatre.

The Bible encourages every Christian to love by following the example of Jesus, who left heaven to walk with us in earthly suffering. Inspired by that example, we invite you to join us as we partner with the National Coalition for the Homeless to share in the struggles of the thousands of people who are experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C.

With advice and insights from a guide who has experienced or is currently experiencing homelessness, you will leave the comfort of your home to step into the shoes of someone else. During the course of three nights, you will see the world through the eyes of someone experiencing homelessness, learn what the city has to offer in terms of services, and understand what it is like to sleep on the street, gaining lasting empathy and practical knowledge.

Ghana 2018 Info Session

03/11/2018 3:30 PM • Collab • Google Map

Contact: Stacy Jeffries • ghana@aoneeight.org

There are more than 65,000 children and youth living on the streets of Accra, Ghana. These children are victims of family abandonment, poverty, violence and mistreatment. Exposed to sexual exploitation, they are often at risk to sexually transmitted diseases and infections. They currently lack access to healthcare, shelter, clothing, healthy meals and positive adult influences.

On this first-time mission to Accra, we are partnering with Future of Africa as they provide literacy programs, meals, and mentorship for more than 100 at-risk youth in the region. We will walk alongside them in prayer for vision and breakthrough, as well as for a new school and community center to provide a safe space for the children and offer more programs. We will also explore International Justice Mission to learn more about their current projects to end and prevent child abuse in Ghana. If you have a heart for social justice, education, and showing God’s love, we invite you to join us as we fight for the causes of the children as they are the future and have the potential to transform the nation of Ghana through their circles of influence.

“The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.” Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭9:31‬ ‭NLT‬‬.

We are returning, for the third year, to Habana and surrounding towns; where the Holy Spirit is working through the churches. Our Cuban church family reflects a spirit of enthusiasm and dedication to service; where worship and love of God is palpable. We will partner with Assemblies of God, Koinonia Children’s Ministries, and other churches. Collectively, we will promote principals of community service, missions and evangelism. Our long term goal is to raise up a generation of missionaries, evangelists, and firm leaders. We will be serving children, the elderly, as well as new church plants. If you love the Lord, enjoy encouraging others, and are not immune to difficult terrain and environments then consider joining our team. If you love to serve and promote the Gospel through evangelism then consider joining our team.
