Confession

Frail and broken, blind to what You’ve spoken
This is my confession
I am guilty, complicit in the action
This is my confession

But You’ve accepted me, despite the things I’ve done
You’ve acknowledged me, as righteous and beloved

My confession, Lord change me
My confession, Lord make me more like You

I am rude and heartless, speaking words that harm love
This is my confession
Proud and selfish, consumed with how I finish
This is my confession

But You’ve accepted me, despite the things I’ve done
You’ve acknowledged me, as righteous and beloved

My confession, Lord change me
My confession, Lord make me more like You

Grow in me love and peace and a joy that won’t cease
Grow in me faith and kindness and goodness
Grow in me gentle speech, grow in me long-suffering
And the courage to die to myself
This is my confession

My confession, Lord change me
My confession, Lord make me
My confession, Lord change me
My confession, Lord make me more like You

Daily Practice and Reflection

What do you need to confess today? In what specific areas do you most need to rest upon the unending mercy of God?

In those areas of confession, how can you now participate in God’s healing work today?

Today we are going to pray a short, ancient Christian prayer called The Jesus Prayer. The prayer simply says, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.” It’s important to note that in praying this prayer, we are not questioning whether or not God is merciful. Instead, we pray this prayer to make ourselves more aware of His constantly available mercy. Pause in silence for a moment. Now with your breath, pray the prayer ten times, inhaling on “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God” and exhaling on “have mercy on me.”

Set a timer or an alarm for two-hour increments today until you go to bed. Every two hours, pray this prayer again ten times, with your breath.
