  • The Sex Talk(s) Event

    The Sex Talk(s)

When it comes to sex, most parents—and the Church—have done a woefully inadequate job of casting a positive vision of sexuality, instead reducing it to a list of dos and don'ts. Mostly don'ts. This represents a significant failure to fully understand and live out deep spiritual truths about our relationships, our bodies, our desires, and indeed the very meaning of life.

This May, we are excited to bring in three speakers—Christopher West, Deb Hirsch, and Bob Ragan—to cast a positive Christian vision of sexuality and to help us all better understand God’s plan and purpose for our lives. Hope you can join us!

    May 7:  Christopher West

Christopher West is a proud husband and father of five. His global lecturing, best-selling books and multiple audio and video programs have also made him the world’s most recognized teacher of John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” – a bold, biblical vision of love and sexuality that takes us to the “cor” of what it means to be human. As Founder and President of The Cor Project, he leads an international outreach devoted to spreading this liberating teaching and empowering others to live and share it. His work has been featured in The New York Times, on ABC News, Fox News, MSNBC, and countless Catholic and evangelical media outlets.

    May 14:  Deb Hirsch

Deb Hirsch is a speaker, church leader, and writer who has led churches in both Australia and Los Angeles. She is one of the founders of Forge Mission Training Network and is a member of the Forge America national team. She also serves as a board member for Missio Alliance and was part of the leadership team of Christian Associates, a church planting movement in Europe, North & South America. She is the co-author (with Alan Hirsch) of Untamed: Reactivating a Missional Form of Discipleship, and her book Redeeming Sex reflects her own journey and attempts to bring new conversations about sexuality into the context of the church. Deb has been involved in social work, community development and as a trained counselor has worked in the field of sexuality for over twenty-five years. She and her husband live in community with others in Los Angeles.

  • Ecuador Mission Team Info Session Event

    Ecuador Mission Team Info Session

Our team will head to the Amazon region of Ecuador, staying in a town called Sucúa. There we will work with missionaries Joil and Leah Marbut, who minister to the Shuar and Achuar people in villages surrounding Sucúa, as well as run Hope House, a home for displaced girls, many of whom are victims of trafficking and abuse. Our team’s focus will be narrowed as we assess the gifts and passions of the team members participating.  Project possibilities include a women’s health/awareness clinic to help prevent trafficking in the larger community (to raise tracking awareness to the girls in the village that they aren’t able to help at the Hope House), medical clinic/sanitation seminars in villages (this would involve hiking to nearby villages for day trips), installing clean water filters in villages, clinics or seminars for the girls at the Hope House, and/or light construction.

  • Justice Experience Commitment Meeting Event

    Justice Experience Commitment Meeting

Formerly known as the DC Homeless Experience, this mission team will focus on the issue of homelessness.

The Bible encourages every Christian to love by following the example of Jesus, who left heaven to walk with us in earthly suffering. Inspired by that example, we invite you to join us as we partner with the National Coalition for the Homeless for the Homeless to share in the struggles of the thousands of people who are experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C. With advice and insights from a guide who has experienced or is currently experiencing homelessness, you will leave the comfort of your home to step into the shoes of someone else. During the course of three nights, you will see the world through the eyes of someone experiencing homelessness, learn what the city has to offer in terms of services, and understand what it is like to sleep on the street, gaining lasting empathy and practical knowledge. All in an effort to love more like Jesus loves.

  • Ghana Commitment Meeting Event

    Ghana Commitment Meeting

There are more than 65,000 children and youth living on the streets of Accra, Ghana. These children are victims of family abandonment, poverty, violence and mistreatment. Exposed to sexual exploitation, they are often at risk to sexually transmitted diseases and infections. They currently lack access to healthcare, shelter, clothing, healthy meals and positive adult influences.

On this first-time mission to Accra, we are partnering with Future of Africa as they provide literacy programs, meals, and mentorship for more than 100 at-risk youth in the region. We will walk alongside them in prayer for vision and breakthrough, as well as for a new school and community center to provide a safe space for the children and offer more programs. We will also explore International Justice Mission to learn more about their current projects to end and prevent child abuse in Ghana. If you have a heart for social justice, education, and showing God’s love, we invite you to join us as we fight for the causes of the children as they are the future and have the potential to transform the nation of Ghana through their circles of influence.

Leaders: Stacy Jeffries, David Collier and Elsie Hayford

  • Champions in Action DC Commitment Meeting Event

Champions in Action DC Commitment Meeting

Hundreds of refugee families are resettled in the DMV area every month. Having endured a lot already, there remain many challenges and adjustments for these families as they rebuild their lives here in America. Soccer is one of very few familiar things for newly resettled kids—and they LOVE to play! If you can smile, clap and high-five, then we have a role for you! Next summer, we will partner with Champions in Action DC to host a five-day soccer camp specifically for refugee kids (U-14) in Maryland. Soccer or sport experience is highly recommended but not essential, as we will need volunteers to make lunches, run activities and build vital relationships with the kids. Camp will run Monday through Friday from 8:30a to 1p. No overnights necessary.

  • Bolivia Mission Team Info Session Event

    Bolivia Mission Team Info Session

A large part of our mission will be spent backpacking and camping with teenage boys, helping them overcome hurdles, obstacles and past hurts. Much like NCC, we are showing God’s love in unique and creative ways to the some of the most amazing boys on this planet.
