Small Groups

Steaks, Burritos & Sometimes Stogies - Springfield

  • Group Focus: Book Study
  • Participants: Men
  • Location: VA: Alexandria/ Springfield
  • When: Monday, 7:00 PM (EST)

The NCC Men’s Community consists of small groups meeting in different locations, all linked in the common purpose of fostering a safe place of spiritual, social and intellectual depth where men committed to God and building His Kingdom can grow in friendship with other men, draw closer in relationship with Jesus and become ever more the men God intended us to be as we navigate the challenges of modern life. This group meets in the Springfield, VA area.

The small groups meet weekly, except for once a month when all the groups will meet together at The Turnaround to enable friendships to develop among men in the various small groups. At those monthly meetings, in addition to a couple of “TED” talks about our study topic and some mixed group discussions, we’ll follow up with “Social Time” where adult beverages, smoothies and cigars are likely to appear. The Community will also conduct quarterly retreats down at David Grizzle’s farm in Lexington, VA, which involve hard hikes, deep conversation, running chainsaws, time for reflection, skeet shooting and prayer, as well as unbelievably good food. The intention is that each man would be able to attend a retreat at least twice a year. We are also intent on building a service culture involving serving our homeless neighbors.

We also will study a common curriculum, which this semester is “Be Strong and Courageous.” We will be discussing fears that we face in all aspects of life, highlighting things happening in our country and culture and how scripture can help guide our thoughts and conversations. We will have a mixture of scripture, thoughts, and questions to discuss over 13 weeks. The guide will be rich enough to study on your own but will be best put into action by discussing it in the community. We always place a high priority on being known and seen in a safe community.

We intend for our group to be very inclusive. No one is not the right man for this group.
