Elementary- March 22

Worship:

Engaging in praise and worship helps us prepare our hearts to hear from God. It is also an important way we can give God glory and focus on who He is. At NCC Kids, we start our Sunday experience with singing and dancing, bringing a joyful sound unto the Lord.

You can access a playlist to this month's worship song videos here. Ask your child to help you learn the motions so you can follow along!

Note: There will be one worship song in the Bible story experience video, so you can use the playlist to supplement your church at home experience or to listen to throughout the week!

Story:

Each week at NCC Kids, Elementary kids view a new Bible story video. Every month there is a theme that ties the Bible stories together week to week.

This month’s Elementary theme is DIY: Forgiveness is Up to You. You can access this week’s Bible story videos here

Activities:

For this week’s Elementary activity, download the file here to print or view at home.

Activity 1: Scene Cards

  • What You Need:
    • “Scene Cards” Activity Pages
    • Blank paper
    • Markers/crayons
  • What You Do:
    • Give your child a piece of paper and drawing utensils.
    • Allow kids to pick a “Scene Card.” (Or read one from online if not printed)
    • Encourage kids to draw something representing the scene on the paper.
    • As a family, try to retell the story using the pictures kids drew. Make sure everyone’s picture is included in the story line.
    • Ask- Consider asking the questions while kids are drawing:
      • “The story of the father and his two sons is called a parable. What’s a parable? (a parable is a story used to teach something, Jesus frequently told parables to make His point)
      • How can we sometimes be like the younger son?
      • How is the father like God? What is Jesus teaching us about God’s forgiveness in this parable?
      • Facilitate discussion so the kids have the opportunity to tell the story of God’s forgiveness. Just like the younger son did things that kept him from having a relationship with his father, we do things that keeps us from having a relationship with God. God sent Jesus to make a way to fix our relationship with God so we have God’s forgiveness and we can be with Him now and forever.
    • Emphasize that God’s forgiveness is for everyone and God doesn’t hold a grudge.

Activity 2: Memory Verse

“Put up with one another. Forgive one another if you are holding something against someone. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13, NIrV

  • What You Do:
    • Help kids look up Colossians 3:13 in their Bibles.
    • Say the verse together.
    • Then say just the last sentence of the verse together several times.
    • Encourage kids to draw a picture of a time they had to forgive someone. Write the last sentence of the verse, “Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you” on the picture as a reminder.
  • What You Say:
    • “This verse will help us remember that God forgives us! He forgives us when we sin--or do things that go against what His word tells us to do or not do.”

God Time Cards: A Daily Reflection

As an additional resource, consider using the God Time card to prompt daily reflection on this week’s Bible story. Depending on the age of your child, they can complete this activity independently or you could work on the prompts together.

You will find God Time cards to download or view here. There are three options you can choose from: K-5th grade, K-1st grade, or 4-5th grade.
