Refugee Care

When: Ongoing

“For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; for I was a stranger, and you invited me in,” Matthew 25:35

Our vision is for every refugee family in the DMV to feel supported and welcome our community. Here are a few of the ways we are engaging:

Agency Team: We partner with local resettlement agencies such as Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area, International Rescue Committee, and Ethiopia Community Development Council. The agency team works to set up apartments before families arrive, pick families up from the airport, and works with individuals seeking to gain employment.

Family Friend Team: Spends time with families, becoming friends and engaging with them on all levels of life, from doctor appointments to meals around the table. The Family Friends team commits to diving deeper into the culture and language of their friends, seeking to learn from them and their community, as well as invite them into their own.

Basic Needs Team: Gathers donations of all kinds, from furniture to kitchen gadgets, helping provide what’s need to set up a new apartment or outfits for a new job. Working on this team is meeting needs with resources.

Sports Team: Engaging kids through familiar fun. Hosting summer camps and coaching soccer leagues.

City Team: Partners with local churches to learn and share best practices, and to look for ways we can work together. The City Team plans LISTEN + LEARN events as well as other educational and awareness events.

Prayer Team: Covers everything we do in prayer, from events to individual needs.

ESL Support: Our Gainesville and Potomac Yard locations have partnered with local organizations to serve families resettling through teaching English.

Internationally: We continue to support partners such as Wold Vision and A21 through mission teams and financial assistance as they work with refugees around the world.
